The Topic and environment for PhD studies
The Centre for Antimicrobial Bioengineering (CAMB) works on the design, synthesis and studies of the next-generation non-toxic antimicrobial polymers. We are looking for talented B. Eng or B. Sc graduates who wish to pursue further in depth studies in the fields of polymer chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Colloidal Science, Biomolecular Bioengineering, microbiology, and synthetic chemistry. The successful PhD student applicants shall have the opportunity to work in the world class labs here in Singapore, USA, UK, New Zealand and Europe.
Professor Mary B. Chan-Park is presently the Director of the CAMB, and also the Director of the NTU Food Technology and Engineering Centre (NAFTEC). She is also the “2019 Board of Trustee Chaired Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering” at NTU. Her main research interests are in polymers in nanoscience and biotechnology, antimicrobial polymers and hydrogels. She has published extensively, with more than 200 papers in top-tier journals such as Nat. Mater., Nat. Commun., Nano Letters, Adv. Mater..
Associate Professor Hongwei Duan is the associate chair-research in the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at NTU. His current research focuses on understanding surface/interface properties of micro- and nano-structures for tailored optical, electronic, magnetic, and catalytic properties, and exploring their biomedical and environmental applications. His work has been published in top journals such as Nat. Commun., JACS, Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed..
Qualifications of Candidates: Top 20% graduates with a Bachelor Degree.
The NTU Premium scholarship (a monthly stipend plus a tuition fee subsidy):
The award is tenable for one year in the first instance and is renewable subject to good progress. The maximum period of the Scholarship is 4 years for PhD candidates, as determined by school as well as availability of research funding in each case.
A monthly stipend of SGD 2000 per month before qualifying (18 months), and 2500 SGD to 3000 SGD after qualifying exams (for 30 months).
In addition to the monthly stipend, the award also covers the annual tuition fee.

段宏伟博士，新加坡南洋理工大学化学与生物医学工程学院副教授、副院长。段宏伟博士的主要研究领域包括聚合物和无机纳米晶杂化材料、生物成像、药物释放、生物传感和催化等方面，目前已在Nat. Commun., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., JACS, Adv. Mater., Nano Letters, ACS Nano等期刊发表SCI检索论文110余篇。
